Benefits of Lorain High School PLA start with bids 6% lower than estimates

The latest example that proves Project Labor Agreements are a benefit to Ohio Construction projects came to light Monday night (April 21) when the Lorain School Board awarded contracts based on bids that were 6 percent lower than initial estimates.

Some of the savings were quickly allocated to pay for nine of the project’s 18 alternate options, further enhancing a 315,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art high school.

Last year, the North Central Building Trades Council, working in partnership with ACT Ohio, initiated a lawsuit seeking to enforce the existing Project Labor Agreement with the Lorain schools that was challenged by the Ohio School Facilities Commission.

2013 Construction spending neared $900 billion in 2013

Construction spending during December 2013 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted rate of $930.5 billion, .1 percent above November’s estimate of $929.9 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce.
Spending in December was also well above the December 2012 estimate of $883.6 billion by 4.8 percent. This brings the final value of construction total for 2013 to $898.4 billion, which is 4.8 percent above the $857.0 billion spent in 2012.

November brought increases to construction industry spending

Construction spending during November 2013 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted rate of $934.4 billion, 1.0 percent above October’s estimate of $925.1 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce.
Spending in November was also well above the November 2012 estimate of $882.7 billion by 5.9 percent. Construction spending over the first 11 months of 2013 ($828.4 billion) is up 5 percent overall above the same period in 2012.

Spending in August was also well above the August 2012 estimate of $854.0 billion by 7.1 percent. Construction spending over the first 8 months of 2013 ($549.4 billion) is up 5.9 percent overall above the same period in 2012.
