Workers’ Memorial Day Events Planned Throughout Ohio

Events are planned throughout the state of Ohio on April 28 for Workers’ Memorial Day, an event held annually to remember workers killed on the jobsite.
In addition to honoring workers who lost their lives, the day also serves as a reminder that workers throughout the country are still fighting for improved safety on the jobsite, including better safety standards and tougher safety code enforcement. The date of April 28 is used to commemorate the 1971 establishment of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which is responsible for setting and enforcing workplace safety standards.

CBCTC President Terry Joyce Honored

The Irish American Archives Society (IAAS) bestowed one of their highest honors to Cleveland Building & Construction Trades Council President Terence P. Joyce on February 25.
President Joyce, who is also the Business Manager of Laborers Local 310, was honored for his contributions to the local Irish community when he received the Annual Walk of Life Award from the IAAS.

Renovation work at Progressive Field now under a PLA

The Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council has successfully negotiated a Project Labor Agreement for the major stadium renovation project underway at Progressive Field.
While the union construction trades in Cleveland have had a positive relationship with the Cleveland Indians and the county-owned stadium, this is the first time a formal PLA was signed for a renovation project. The original construction of the ballpark 20 years ago, then known as Jacobs Field, was covered by a PLA.
